Miss Bates - 24 May 2024
Well done year 6 for a fantastic week!
We have been very busy in year 6 catching up on all are learning from around SATs.
In science, we have finished off our ‘Evolution and Inheritance’ topic, looking at the theory of natural selection and evolution to find distantly related ancestors to humans and why we evolved. The children created a brilliant story-board of the evolution from primate to homo sapiens, describing each stage of the evolution and drawing a picture to represent this.
In history, we have finished off our Maafa topic by exploring how Britain benefitted from slavery, the abolition of slavery and the colonisation of Africa. By the end of the topic, the children were able to explain events that led to the end of slavery as well as why countries colonised Africa and what this meant for the indigenous people.
In art, we have finished up our topic ‘tint, shade tone’, exploring what each term meant and showcasing this in our work. The children tried to create colours to match the shades seen within a landscape by using their knowledge of colour theory. Finally, we sketched a landscape then painted one – the results can be seen in the pictures below.
In English, we finished writing our biography of Charles Darwin, we organised our research into different categories and used this to create our sub-headings. Some of the children looked at controversies surrounding Charles Darwin and used this as a comparison within his work.
As always, please continue to read five times a week and play on TTRS for 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week (even over half term).
I hope you all have an enjoyable week off and I will see you back on Monday 3
rd June for our final half term together.
