Miss Bowden - 23 Jan 2026

Well done for completing another week year 3!

This week in English we have been looking at informal letters, in preparation for our writing next week. We had loads of fun writing a letter to a friend in our class and receiving one back. We have also been working on our skills of preposition of time; ‘in, at, on’ and using the prefix ‘un’ to change the meaning of a word. Next week we will be planning and writing our own informal letters based on our book Leo and the Gorgons Curse.

In maths we have moved into our new topic of length and perimeter. This week we have been working hard looking at centimetres and millimetres, using our rulers and metre sticks to measure things around our class!

In science this week we have continued our work on our topic of light. We explored sun cream bottles, decoding the SPF numbers on the bottles. We also experimented with UV beads and UV lights to test the impact of UV rays! It was fascinating to watch the beads change colour instantly when exposed to the UV light! We also put our sunglasses to the test using a light indicator!

In history this week we created our own ‘influential Greek figure’ fact file! We used the chrome books to research facts and even attempted to draw them!
On Thursday 12th February we will be holding ‘a day in the life of an ancient Greek’ to end our topic of God’s and Mortals. It will be a day filled with fun activities based on ancient Greece. There will be no cost for this event, but we would love your child to come in dressed in an ancient Greek outfit. We will be sending a letter out on Monday with more details.

Next week we will be working on building an automaton toy in DT.
Could the children please bring in any small cardboard boxes they may have at home, (e.g small shoe boxes, tissue boxes ect) as this will be used for the base of their toy!

Please continue to read with your child 5 times a week and encourage Times Tables Rockstars at least 5 times a week (for 5 minutes) as this really helps them through their math’s lessons!

Spellings for next week are attached!

Have a lovely weekend!
