Miss Bates - 21 Apr 2023

Well done Year 6 for a fantastic week of hard work!

We have been continuing with our SATs revision throughout the week looking at multistep problems with specific focus on the four operations (the most common questions to appear in SATs reasoning papers). We have been continuing our learning of area of a triangle and progressed onto volume of a cuboid.

In comprehension, we have been focusing on question types and the response they require, e.g;
Question: ‘why did…’
Answer: ‘Because…’
This has helped us ensure we are putting the right type of answer and means we know what to look for when skimming and scanning our text.

We have been spending some time going over unseen spelling words from our ‘ninja spelling list’ in preparation for our SATs. We have also spent some time reminding ourselves about different types of punctuation and where we use them in a sentence.

I’m really impressed with how much we have retained over Easter and am so proud of all the hard work you have been doing at school and at home.

To end the week on the nice note, this afternoon, we completed our piece of art to represent the school for the Kings Coronation. We took inspiration from George Seurat and painted the school logo in the style of pointillism. The children really enjoyed this and showed great patience while creating their artwork. I will attach pictures for you to have a look through.

I have set home a maths reasoning booklet for the children to compete. There are resources on the school website to look through and complete anything additional if you wish to. As always, reading with an adult and timestables rockstars for 10 minutes a day, 5 days a week.

As a reminder, Year 6 P.E. day will now take place on Tuesday rather than Thursday. The children are to come into school in their school uniform and need to bring a swimming costume, a towel and a swimming hat. Children are also allowed to bring swimming goggles if desired.

I hope you have a lovely weekend and I will see you on Monday!
