1ST Autumn 2 week 2

Mrs Staples - 15 Nov 2024

Another brilliant week! Well done Year 1. Thank you to all parents and grownups who were able to attend parent consultations this week, it was lovely to chat with you all.

English
This week in English, we have continued reading Paddington Bear. The children have been able to identify nouns and use exciting adjectives when describing Paddington and the settings from the book. We were particularly impressed that the children were able to use descriptive words, other than colours, so competently in their sentences! Brilliant work!

Maths
In maths, we have been recapping our fact family work. We then progressed to working on subtraction using manipulatives. The children have found this challenging; however, they have been working with determination and resilience.

Other
In science, we continued looking at different materials and objects. We completed a material hunt around the school and sorted objects in class.

In geography, we took a Google walk around Rainham. We were identifying human features such as the church, library and park. The children got very excited when seeing places familiar to them.

In DT, we continued looking at moving vehicles and designed our own London Taxi. Please send in any small boxes for us to use as the chassis for our taxis.

Reminder:
Please send the children in with a teddy or cuddly next week so we can role-play how to bath a bear in our English lessons before we write our instructions. Please ensure these are name labelled and please note, these will not get wet.

All parents should have received a letter about nativity costumes. Please send these in ASAP with a name, clearly labelled – thank you.
