Miss Pillai - 15 May 2025

Well done year 4 for a brilliant week at school!

In maths, we have finished up our topic of ‘money’ by roleplaying shop keepers – handling change and finding totals for multiple prices. We have focused a lot on place value and how to convert between pounds and pence, the children will be coming home with some homework to complete on this topic to practise these skills further. We have also started our new topic of ‘time’, starting off by reminding ourselves of days, months, weeks and years. We looked at how many days are in each month as well as how many days are in a year and how this changes on a leap year.

In English, we have started our new piece of writing – an informal letter – and have completed our two skills for this; paragraphs and informal language. We have looked at a ‘bad’ example of an informal letter and looked at how we can improve this by including rhetorical questions and contractions. Next week, we will be planning, editing and writing our final draft of our letter.

In shared reading, we have continued with our core text of ‘Secrets of a sun king’, developing our vocabulary skills, finding nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs as well as using evidence from the text to prove our answer.

In science this week, we learned about endangered animals and how they become endangered from human impacts. We chose one animal to research then made a poster about them to list the ways we can help prevent them from becoming exstinct.

In geography this week, we completed a case study on a mountain in the UK. We researched wildlife, tourism, climate and interesting facts and presented this information in a travel brochure to encourage people to visit!

In art this week,  we finished up our topic of ‘Vista’ by compiling all the skills we had developed including warm and cool tones to create a mountain scenery. Next week will be the start of our DT topic ‘Tomb Builders’.

Well done for working so hard this week year 4! Please remember to read and play TTRS for 5 minutes a time, 5 times a week. A reminder that our school trip to Mount Fitchet Castle is on Tuesday 3rd June and permission slips need to be returned by Friday 22nd May.
