Miss Bates - 24 Nov 2023

Well done year 6 for a fantastic week!

In English this week, we have finished up our non-chronological reports (which will soon be on display around our classroom) and have looked at main and subordinate clauses. Next week will be the start of our new writing topic for a newspaper.

In maths, we have finished our second fractions topic (multiplying and dividing), we started exploring different ways to measure items and felt the differences between different weights; we did this in preperation for next week where we will be looking at measurements and converting units. Below this post, I will attach some fraction work for children to look over at home if desired. Any work you complete at home, please bring in – I would love to see it!

In Science this week, we have started our ‘mouldy bread experiment’ in which we are looking at different variables that cause mould to grow. We have discussed our variables (sunlight or water) and have compared this to a control piece of bread – we also talked about the importance of wearing gloves to make sure the bread is not contaminated! We have also taken other slices of bread and gone on an adventure around the school, looking at different areas such as the floor and door handles to see the mould that might begin to grown from there.

In geography this week, we have looked at natural resources and how some of these are considered ‘renewable’ and some of these are not. We then looked at the types of natural resources the Arctic would have and how to ensure we do not run out of these resources too quickly!

As always, please ensure your children continue to read 5 times a week and access timestable rockstars for at least 5 minutes each time. Reading and timestables are essential to improve writing ability and maths understanding.
