Miss Bates - 13 Oct 2023
Well done year 6 for a brilliant week!
We have spent our week covering division techniques during maths, specifically looking at dividing using factors as well as long division. I will attach some documents for at home support as this is a topic that will require regular practice. Next week in maths, we will be finishing up our ‘addition, subtraction, multiplication and division’ topic by looking at orders of operations and reasoning from known facts.
In our English this week, we have continued our work towards our setting description and have done
lots of editing to make our work the best it can be. We will be writing this up as our final draft next week, which will include all of our improvements. I’m looking forward to reading them all!
In history this week, we took a closer look at Prince Albert and his death, we focused our research on the impact this had on Queen Victoria and her reign.
In Science, we focused on creating a set of traffic lights which would change colouring by the use of a paperclip as a switch. The children did a fantastic job to problem solve and find solutions to make their circuit work.
In art, we have been looking at Lowrys work of ‘matchstick men’ and have used this as inspiration to create our own scene. We began by sketching out our design before painting it.
In computing, we have been working with ‘microbit’ and looked at creating a game which generates random numbers as well as keeps score of the winner!
We done for being on TTRS lots this week year 6, we were able to beat year 4 in our tournament (whoever it was very close). Please continue to use TTRS for 5 minutes a day, 5 times a week to continue developing your fluency. Please also continue to read 5 times a week and record this in your reading record with the pages you read from/ to and a parents signature.
Please be reminded that our school trip to the science museum will be next Wednesday. The children need to be in school at 8:45 sharp, as we will be leaving very early in order to make our train times. This will be a long day out and we are not expected home until 3:00-3:15. There will be lots of walking so whilst the children need to be in school uniform, they should be wearing comfortable shoes (trainers) suitable for the journey. They will not need to bring in any reading books/ records and can keep these at home for the day. They will, however need to bring a bag with a bottle of water and their packed lunch (unless this is bring provided by the school). If this is in a disposable carrier bag with their name on, this can be disposed of after lunch rather than carrying this back home as well.
I hope you all have a relaxing weekend and I will see you back on Monday!
