Week 2 Summer 2 5S

Well done for another brilliant week, Year 5. This week, we got back into routine after our trip to Stubbers last week!
In Maths, we began a new unit of Decimals. This has included adding and subtracting decimals with different place values, using efficient strategies to complete calculations involving decimals, and comparing decimals. The pupils have done very well to start this unit off, and have worked hard on their place value skills.
In English, we started a new unit preparing to write an explanation text. To do so, we have visited different types of clauses, including looking at relative and subordinate clauses in more detail. The children wrote examples of each and were able to identify the relative pronoun at the beginning of each relative clause.
In Reading, we continued reading our novel Treason. We are over halfway through the novel now, and the children are making confident predictions about the next chapter each day. We have also worked on our vocabulary and explanation skills, too.
This week we have also celebrated Science Week, with a special visit from Nite Owls! The children got some lovely photos taken with the owl and were very sensible whilst holding them.
