Year 5 Summer Term - Week 1

22 Apr 2022

Welcome back to the final term of the year!

With this week being shorter than normal due to the Easter Bank Holiday Monday, we've still managed to start our new topic and make some good progress with maths and English.

EYFS
We had the priveledge of being invited to EYFS to read traditional tales with some of the youngest children in our school. Both groups of children had a wonderful time and even got to play together in the EYFS garden area.

English Reading
This week we begun the new term with some poetry - The Highwayman. This is a challenging poem that requires a good understanding of vocabulary. As our first task related to the poem we used thesauruses to find antonyms for words so that the mood/feeling of the first stanza was different to the original intention.

Maths
Our new block focuses on decimals. This week we have been adding and subtraction decimals below 1.

History
We met Elizabeth I on her deathbed and asked critical questions about events related to what she had to say.

English Writing.
Our genre focus is writing biographies. Children will get to choose between Elizabeth I or Henry VIII. One of our foci is taking succint notes so that our writing will be more creative.
