Welcome to year 5

Miss Line - 14 Sep 2023

English
This term in English we will be writing a newspaper article based on our class text “Beowulf”. We started by looking at direct and indirect speech and this week we have been revising our use of subordinating conjunctions. Next week we will be writing our own newspaper article.

Maths
Our first unit of work in Maths is place value. We started by looking at numbers to 10,000 and 100,00 and this week we have looked at how to read and write numbers up to one million. Next week we will be continuing our work on place value and will be comparing and ordering numbers.

Science
In Science this term, we will be looking at the properties of materials. Last week we carried out an experiment to test whether materials were magnetic, transparent or electrical conductors and this week we looked at which materials were the best thermal insulators.
