Week 4 Autumn 1 5S

27 Sep 2024

Well done for another brilliant week, Year 5.

This week, in Maths, we begun our new unit on Addition and Subtraction. The children did very well with some aspects of learning, such as using column method to add and subtract numbers with more than 5 digits. However, they did struggle with using rounding to check answers, therefore I would strongly encourage to practise this with your children at home, if at all possible.

In English, we have also begun a new topic: preparing to write a non-chronological report. This week we looked at a great example of a non-chronological report, as well as recapping using brackets for parenthesis. The children also did very well looking at a new piece of grammar: relative clauses. The class did well recognising them and writing their own.

For our Reading lessons, we have continued reading Beowulf. We are now on the second story (Beowulf and the Sea-Hag), and the children are still showing good engagement with the book. The class have demonstrated good inference skills, as well as being able to explain and consisely summarise key parts of the story.

Happy weekend.
