Year 5 Spring Term - Week 8

03 Mar 2022

Another busy week in Year 5...

Maths
We have finally finished the largest maths block of Year 5 - fractions. As of next week we will be moving on to studying decimals and percentages. While this is a much smaller unit in terms of length, its importance cannot be understated. It will be incredibly useful for children to mentally recall their equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages as it will make the rest of their learning in Year 5 and Year 6 more comfortable.

English Writing
We have continued our progress with writing non-chronological reports by practising independent writing that used our prior learning based on prefixes and plural possessive apostrophes. As a result of this week, children are now more aware of their areas for development.

Science
Building on our prior learning about sexual reproduction in plants, this week we studied asexual reproduction by studying spider plants, strawberries, roses, mushrooms and bacteria.

Religion
This week we studied the Easter Story in detail and sequenced it. We then discussed why Christians consider Jesus' death to be a sacrifice.

World Book Day
This Thursday (3rd March) we celebrated World Book Day in school and it was lovely to see so many creative and varied costumes! Please remember that your book token does have an expiry date so if you haven't already redeemed it, your chance may soon be lost.
