Week 2 Summer 1 5S

02 May 2025

Well done for a great week, Year 5.

This week, in English, we have been working on our peformance poetry unit. The children have been looking at a variety of different poems, and building on their skills for performing them. This includes reading with the correct expression, pace and pitch for each part of the poem.

In Science, we started our new topic 'animals including humans'. This topic is focused on the human life cycle. We began our topic by looking at different animals and their gestation periods, comparing the size of the animal to the length of their gestation period. The children made some good predictions and used data to create line graphs successfully.

For Art, we began a new unit called 'Expressionism'. In this unit, we are learning all about expressionism artowrks, and the pioneer of expressionism: Edvard Munch. The children had a great start to this unit, analysing different pieces of artwork by Munch, and then creating their own, based on one of his pieces.

The class have also been working very, very hard practising for our class assembly next week!

Please remember that we have: class assembly, shared learning and a Stubbers meeting on Tuesday 6th May.
The assembly will begin at approximately 1:30pm. Shared learning will then take place straight after, around 1:50-2:00pm. After shared learning is complete (and any siblings picked up), there will be a meeting with information all about our Stubbers residential trip, around 3:00pm. At this meeting, I will be giving parents/guardians forms to complete and letters to take away.

Happy weekend :)
