Week 5 Spring 2 5S
28 Mar 2025
Well done for another great week, year 5.
This week, in Maths, we finished our unit on Area and Perimeter, and began our new unit on Statistics. The children have found area and perimeter a little more challenging, so we will be recapping some of the trickier parts of this unit throughout the Summer term. We have had a great start with our statistics unit, however, with the children showing good understanding of what a line graph and a bar chart are, and drawing their own ones using data provided.
In English, we completed our final draft of our balanced argument. The children had written their first draft the week before assessment week, so we began this week with recapping/refreshing what we had written, and then editing and uplevelling in our partners. The children then took this feedback and wrote their final draft on Tuesday. They did a brilliant job, and we had some very persuasive argumetns, with thoughtful evidence to back them up.
For our Geography lesson, we looked at different types of food which are grown all over the world. We investigated the sort of climate that they need to grow in, how that food is harvested, and then looked at the journey that food takes to arrive in the UK supermarkets. The children were shocked at the miles that some of the food takes to travel to us, especially bananas!
Happy weekend.
