Week 4

31 Jan 2019

Literacy

This week Year 5 began the week by editing and improving their biographies. They have worked so hard this week and I am pleased to see the children beginning to use cohesive devices with confidence now. We have moved on to persuasive writing and we are thinking of our best reasons for Henry VIII to not chop our heads off! We are, of course, writing in role as Anne Boleyn! The children have looked at the features of persusasion and letters to write to the King.

Maths

This week has involved lots of geometry! On Monday and Tuesday we looked at working out missing angles on a straight line, around a point and at intersecting points. The children were able to understand how to use their knowledge of angles to find missing angles. We then applied this to angles within shapes. The children have also been learning the differences between regular and irregular polygons.

Topic

This week children have been learning that life was not always easy in Tudor times! We looked at what was considered a crime in this period of history and their corresponding (and rather gruesome) punishments. We compared these to modern day punishments and were amazed that certain acts (such as homelessness and gossiping) could even be considered a crime!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Miss West :)
