Week 2 5S

06 Mar 2026

Well done on another fantastic week in Year 5. The children have continued to work with great effort and enthusiasm across all areas of learning.

This week in English, we began our adventure narrative unit. The children explored the WAGOLL and used it to identify the strengths and key features of an adventure narrative. They engaged well with the text and demonstrated a good understanding of what makes this genre effective.

In Maths, we completed our topic on perimeter and area. Although some aspects were challenging, the children showed excellent resilience and remained determined throughout. We are now beginning our new topic on statistics, which the children have already started to explore with interest.

In Science, we continued our learning on living things. This week, we focused on the life cycle of a butterfly, and the children particularly enjoyed role‑playing each stage. This practical activity helped them develop a clearer understanding of the process and created a memorable learning experience.

The children also had a wonderful day celebrating World Book Day. It was lovely to see the effort they put into their costumes, and the creativity was fantastic. As part of the celebrations, the children completed activities linked to our previous class text, Hidden Figures, and even had the opportunity to design and make their own rockets.

Just a gentle reminder to continue reading at home atl east 5 times a week and to spend some time on TTRS to support times‑tables fluency.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
