Week 3 Autumn 2 5S
21 Nov 2025
Well done for another brilliant week, Year 5!
This week, in Science, we continued with our topic of Stargazers and explored Space in more detail. This included recapping the planets in our solar system, and looking at their relative size compared to one another. We also investigated the relative distance between each planet, as well as their distance from the sun.
In Shared Reading, we have carried on reading our book Hidden Figures. The children have shown great engagement with this text, and we have had in-depth conversations about the key themes running through it, including discrimination, segregation and equality. The book is also helping the children to deepend their understanding of how humans first went into space.
This week we also had a Geography lesson, linked to Stargazers. In this lesson, we looked at different aerial images of the earth, taken from a satelitte in space. The images included the pyramids of Giza, Europe at nightime and the Grand Canyon. We also used atlasses to locate these different places, and we were shocked by the children's amazing knowledge of world geography!
Please ensure your child is reading 5 times a week at home, and that an adult is signing their reading record.
Have a lovely weekend :)
