Week 8 5S

24 Oct 2025

Well done for a brilliant half term, Year 5!
We have had a great last week of the half term.

This week, in English, we have been working on The Highwayman poem. Throughout this week, we have been working on our poetic skills, including figurative language and alliteration. The children also created a setting description based on the atmosphere in the poem.

In Maths, we concluded our unit on Multiplication and Division A. This included multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1,000, as well as recognising multiples of 10, 100 and 1,000. The children msotly have done well with this, however their end of unit assessment scores did not reflect the hard work they have put into this unit. We will be revising this unit at the end of autumn 2.

In Science, we have finished our unit on Forces. Our last two lessons have looked at friction in more detail, as well as pulleys and levers. In our friction lesson, the children conducted an experiment where they tested different types of shoes with different grip/tread, and measured the force using a newton meter.

Have a lovely half term, returning back to school on Monday 3rd November.

Please don't forget to read 5x times over the half term week, too!
