Week 6 Spring 1 5S
12 Feb 2025
Well done a brilliant last week of the half-term, Year 5.
This week, in Maths, we have continued on with our topic on Decimals and Percentages. We have been using place value charts to look at the concept of thousandths as decimals, as well as comparing fractions/decimals and finding equivalent fractions/decimals. The pupils have shown a good understanding of decimals so far, with their prior knowledge from Year 4 helping to build their confidence.
In RE, we began looking at our new unit, which focuses on charities and how religions see fairness. We studied two important figures: Malala Yousafzai and Archbishop Romero. We looked at the struggles that they both have/are facing in their lives, and how they overcame them. We also discussed how they show us to advocate for a fair world. During these lessons, we also discussed how religions such as Islam and Christianity view fairness, and the similiarities between these views.
For our History lesson, we rounded off our topic on The Plague by recreating one of the most important events of the 13th century: The Peasant's Revolt! The class had a fantastic time re-enacting what the peasants decided to do, with some children taking on the important role of Wat Tyler. I was really impressed with their understanding of the reasons why the peasants decided to revolt.
Have a lovely half-term. Please remember that we return to school on
Tuesday 25th February, as Monday 24th is an INSET day. Thank you!
