Week 4 Spring 1 5S

31 Jan 2025

Well done for another great week, Year 5!

This week in Reading, we have read Act Three of Macbeth. The children are really enjoying reading this text, and have made some brilliant predictions about the final two acts. The class have also shown good understanding of some new vocabulary, such as mortal wound and gloomy, and have been able to use them in their own sentences.

In Science, we have continued learning about properties of materials. This has involved us learning about what reversible and irreversible changes are. We have planned and partaken in experiments to test out different materials when they change state, such as melting/freezing water, and burning paper. The children have shown a good understanding of some of these trickier concepts.

We have also been working hard on our unit on fractions this week. The children have shown good resilience with multiplying fractions, and have worked very hard to progress when multiplying a mixed number by an integer. The class have also shown real confidence in finding fractions of a quantity, and simplifying fractions.

Today we celebrated National Geographic Day! We did lots of research about endangered animals- although the class knew a lot of information before we even started! The children created some brilliant posters based on an animal of their choice, and shared lots of interesting facts about why their animal is endangered, what their habitat is like, and what we can do to help conservation efforts.

Happy weekend.
