Week 2 Spring 1 5S
17 Jan 2025
Well done for a great week, Year 5.
In History/Geography, we began our new unit 'Peasants, Princes and Pestilience', which teaches us all about the Black Death, or The Plague. We began our first lesson by looking at a map of Europe and Asia, and tracking the origins and then the route that the Plague took whilst travelling from Asia to Europe. We then looked at the Black Death in more detail, researching the tyes of symptoms people got when they were diagnosed with the diease.
For our Art lessons, we have been focussing on line, light and shadows. We first learnt all about continuous line drawings, looking at examples of them, before creating our own drawings. The children did a fantastic job. We then looked at different shading techniques, such as smudging and cross-hatching. The class put these techniques into practice in lesson and did a brilliant job.
In Science, we began our new topic 'properties of materials'. This has involvbed recapping our previous knowledge about states of matter and fabrics from Year 4, as well as learning about new vocabulary such as soluble and insoluble. We practised separating materials based on hardness, texture etc... and also performed on experiment about dissolving.
Happy weekend.
