Week 1 Autumn 2 5S

07 Nov 2024

Well done for a great week back after half-term, Year 5!

In English, we started our new unit focussing on poetry and figurative language. The children have done very well so far! We have learnt all about features such as similes, metaphors, alliteration, onomatopoeia and personification. We also studied repetition poems, and looked at the effect that repetition can have on the engagement of the reader/writer.

In Reading, we began our new book for this half-term: Hidden Figures. We are studying this book because of the link to our topic Stargazer, looking at Space. The children have really enjoyed the beginning of this text, and are fascinated with the fact that humans used to be called computers.

We also began our new unit in Maths: Fractions. We begun by recapping key elements of fractions, including what an equivalent fraction is, and converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions. As the week went on, the children's confidence grew and they all did very well with their reasoning and problem-solving.

Happy weekend.
