Week 8 Autumn 1 5S
24 Oct 2024
We have made it to the end of the term! Well done Year 5.
In Maths, we have been completed our unit on Multiplication and Division. This has included explpring square, prime and cube numbers. The children have generally done well with this unit, however somse children have been sent home with packs to complete to try and secure their knowledge on this topic.
In Reading, we began looking at a new poem called 'The Listeners'. We explored the different themes of the poem, and used our inference skills to answer questions such as 'why is the poet not revealing why the Traveller is knocking?' and 'who do you think the listeners are?'. The children did brilliantly with this poem and were engaged throughout the lessons.
In English, we continued imagining that we had travelled back in time to Ancient Egypt, and we focussed on using a variety of different sentence starters. This included using expanded noun phrases, and using location or action to open a sentence.
I am also very excited to announce that 5 children in our class are getting their own poems published in a book! Congratulations to Abdullah, Ellie, Phoebe, Ruqs and Sara for this brilliant achievement- I am so proud of you.
Thank you so much to all of the adults who came to our Shared Learning on Tuesday! It was fantastic to see so many people join us, and the children really enjoyed themselves.
Happy half-term!
