1ST Spring 2 week 4
Mrs Staples - 16 May 2025
Well done 1ST, it's been a great week!
In English, we started our new book, Beegu. The children discussed and retold the story using a selection of images from the book. They then wrote sentences with correct punctuation marks. Additionally, the children wrote a descriptive paragraph about Beegu, using ‘and’ to join words and clauses. They also learned to make inferences based on what is being said and done by thinking about the feelings of some of the characters in the story.
During our maths lessons this week, we practiced multiplication and division. The children worked on making doubles, adding equal groups, and sharing equally between 2, 3, and 4. For example, sharing 12 sweets between 4 children or sharing 9 hats between 3 children. We also started exploring a new topic: fractions. The focus was on understanding and recognizing what a half of a shape looks like. We discussed that a half must have two equal parts.
In geography, the children learned to use directional language by giving instructions to their partners using correct terminology. We also discussed what weather and climate mean. The children learned about the invisible line called the ‘equator’ and how countries on the equator tend to have a hot climate compared to countries that are further away from it.
In science, we learned about deciduous and evergreen trees. The children went around the school playground to find different shaped leaves, such as toothed, lobed, large leaves, leaflets, and spiky leaves.
In computing, the children learned about the keyboard. They practiced typing their names and saving their work in a file.
