1ST Spring 2 Week 3

Mrs Staples - 09 May 2025

It has been a short but busy week in Year 1!

Well done to all the children who completed Bikeability today, they were all sensible and had a great time!

In English, children first wrote an effective title and introduction for an explanation text on ‘How does a flower grow?’ They then composed three paragraphs to form the main body of their explanation. Finally, they wrote the conclusion of their explanation text.

During our maths lessons this week, we practiced counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s. We learned to recognize equal and unequal groups and to add equal groups using our knowledge of skip counting. Additionally, we explored how to make arrays to help make counting easier.

In Science, children used tissue paper to represent seeds, cupcake cups for flowers, pipe cleaners for stems, and string for roots to create pictures of plants. They then labelled all the parts of the plant. Children also had the opportunity explore real plants, identify different parts, and label them with their partners.

In art, we continued to look at James Rizzi and created some beautiful layered artwork.

In computing, we continued to develop our track pad skills using Paintzapp. The children created some fantastic drawings and explored the various tools available.

This afternoon we celebrated VE day as a school. The children learnt what the phrase Dig For Victory ment, made posters and we planted seeds and flowers in the garden at the back of the school.
