1ST Summer 1 Week 2

Mrs Staples - 05 May 2025

What a beautiful hot and sunny week it has been!

This week in English, children in Year 1 designed their own secret sky gardens and demonstrated fantastic use of adjectives to label their ideas. They then wrote some fantastic setting descriptions using their senses. Additionally, children learned about the plant life cycle and explained the process of how a flower grows.

In our maths lessons, we practiced counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s. The children enjoyed singing songs about these skip counts and completed related worksheets to reinforce their understanding.

In science, children worked in pairs to plant seeds—one in cotton wool and another in a pot of soil. We have begun our bean diaries and have made some observations using our scientific skills!

In art, we explored the work of American pop artist James Rizzi. The children looked at various pieces of his artwork and tried to recreate his vibrant designs.

In geography, we learned about positional language. The children then drew maps of our classroom using chalk in the playground and used correct terminology to describe the positions of objects within it.

In computing the children enjoyed identifying the hardware and they all successfully logged onto a website to practise using the mouse trackpads on the chromebooks.

In music, we completed the next part of our Nautilus unit. The children successfully sung a song using high and low pitch with actions added in.

Please remember suncream, hats and water bottles each day.

Date for the diary:
Friday 9th May - 1ST Bikeability - please return permission slips ASAP.
Friday 9th May - VE day celebrations - please send children in with a personal snack for our corridor street party.
Wednesday 21st May - Victorian Day
