1ST Summer 1 Week 1

Mrs Staples - 25 Apr 2025

Welcome back!

In English, we introduced our new focus story, Secret Sky Garden. Children were able to predict what might happen in the story; they also inferred the characters’ feelings. In our grammar lesson, we revisited using question marks and exclamation marks.

During our maths lessons this week, we learned the terms capacity and volume. We used different-sized containers, filled them with water using different units to measure, and then estimated how many units of water each container would hold. We tested our estimates and finally found out which container had greater capacity, looking at the volume in each one.

In science, we started our focus topic, Plants. We looked at chip potatoes and examined some fruits and vegetables closely, making careful observations. We noticed that they look different on the outside than on the inside. We cut open a pepper, kiwi, pomegranate, plum, and an apple to see the different sizes of seeds.

In art, we compared two or more pieces of artwork and wrote about their similarities and differences.

In computing, we discussed online dangers and learned that there may be people online who could make someone feel sad, embarrassed, or upset. We also learned the term technology and what it means; then, we walked around the classroom to locate technology around us.

In geography, we looked at a globe, atlases, and different maps. We then drew our own maps and learned how to read them.

In music, we began a new unit and used movements to identify the pitch and beat of the music.

Reminder:If you have not returned the Cycle Awareness letter, please send this back to Mrs Shah ASAP if you would like your child to participate - thank you.
