1ST Spring 1 week 5
Mrs Staples - 07 Feb 2025
We have had a productive week in Year 1.
English:
In English, children reviewed adjectives from the story, Chapatti Moon e.g., big, small, fast, slow, etc. They then learned how adding "er" changes adjectives to compare two things, e.g., faster, smaller. Finally, children used these comparative adjectives in role-play. We also discussed how exclamation marks change the meaning of a sentence (showing excitement or surprise). We then used exclamation marks in our sentences.
Maths:
In Maths, children compared and ordered numbers up to 20. They also added numbers by counting on and used their number bonds to add ones within 20.
For example:

Other:
In Science, children looked at animals that camouflage. They completed an activity to identify which colour of wool (insects) a bird would be able to spot on the grass. They then put their findings into a bar graph to understand the results.
In History, children learned about life and childhood in the 1950s, including what people did in their free time.
