Miss Burgess Update 26/1/24

26 Jan 2024

English
This week in English we have looked at our new class text; Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge. The children enjoyed this story and we have started to describe Wilfrid and his actions in the story. We have also been learning about adding the prefix ‘un’ onto root words to make new words. The children worked with their partners to discuss different definitions for these words and put them into sentences before going away to write some of their own sentences into their books.

Maths
This week has been our final week focusing on place value to 20. We have been ordering numbers to 20, estimating to 20 and comparing numbers to 20. Next week, we will be moving onto out next topic in mathematics where we will be learning about addition and subtraction within 20.

Other
During our Science lesson we continue to learn about the human body, focusing on hearing and how we use our ears to hear, We went for a walk around the school building and listen for different sounds we can hear in our environment.

We celebrated National Geographic day on Friday 26th 1S focused on Rainforest and Rainforest animals and 1B focused on learning all about Giant Pandas and why they are in danger of becoming extinct.

In DT children learnt very important life skill of threading yarn into the needle and weaving using children’s sewing kits.
