Summer 1 Week 1
17 Apr 2026
Year 1 have had a great week back!
Maths:
We have been finishing our topic on mass and capacity and next week will begin with a new topic 'multiplication and division'. Children had the opportunity to use scales to measure.
English:
In English, we have been focusing on punctuations such as question marks and exclamation marks. The children have been writing sentences using these punctuations with our focus being Victorian Day. We ended our week with writing sentences using our '-ed' suffix to write in past tense.
Science:
In science, we began our topic on 'plants'. Children looked at different British fruits and vegetables which they observed and drew pictures of.
Victorian Day:
Mr Black had visited our school to teach and show us about the Victorian times. Children came dressed up to school and were in full Victorian theme with different activities and duties that were performed in different rooms in the 'manor'. The children really enjoyed their day! Thank you to parents who had volunteered.
Career visits:
This week we had a lovely visit from the vets! Children had many questions which they asked and had the chanve to learn a lot about the role. We also got the chance to help out some animals with our special tools. Thank you for visiting us!
Reminders:
Please remember to read at least 5 times a week and write in your reading records. Please also remember to practise weekly spellings.
Thank you!
