1ST Autumn 1 week 5

Mrs Staples - 04 Oct 2024

English

In English, we used our senses to describe a setting, and we learnt to identify adjectives. We also started looking at a new story ‘Look Up’ by Nathan Bryan. The children enjoyed watching video of meteor shower and we acted out being in space and doing a space walk.

Maths

In Maths, the children learnt to order numbers. They did really well when practicing/finding part-whole numbers, and finally learnt addition symbol and practiced writing number sentences. I have sent home a short piece of work to support the children with part whole models and their number bonds to 10 - this is optional.

Other

In Science, we learnt to identify similarities and differences in animals, the children identified some great details to distinguish between a macaw and a penguin. In Geography, we practiced giving instructions using positional and directional language.

In Art, we learnt about different textures and how to draw those using a pencil.
During our music lesson the children were singing using varying pitches and were able to identify the beat of the music. We also played percussion instruments to the beat - well done!

Reminder

  • Phonics workshop for parents is on 9th October 2024

  • Please send in an old, plain, white or light coloured T-shirt if you haven’t already one handed in. Children will be painting superhero theme on their t-shirts to wear for our superhero day on Friday 11th October, please note children are supposed to come in school uniform, they will then change the top into our superhero T-shirts.

  • Please hand in the slip for our Barleylands trip if you haven’t already. Don't forget to complete the lunch order too if you would like your child to have a school packed lunch.
