1ST Autumn 2 week 1

Mrs Staples - 08 Nov 2024

It has been a fantastic first week back. The children have settled back into the school and classroom routines beautifully – well done Year 1!

English
This week in English, we have started our new book – Paddington Bear. The children have enjoyed a hook lesson where they were able to work out what book we would be reading, based on some clues. We have also identified the nouns associated with Paddington Bear as well as some adjectives to describe those nouns. We finished the week by identifying the nouns from a scene in the book.

Maths
In maths, we have been recapping our addition skills by adding more within 10 and adding together. We have finished up by solving some addition problem solving questions.

Other
In science, we started a new unit about materials. During our lesson we explored different materials and were able to identify them, we examined glass, wood, metal, water, fabric and plastic.

In geography, we started our Bright Lights, Big City unit. This unit focuses on map skills and the human features of a city. This week the children learnt that London is our nearest city and were able to identify the features of a settlement.

In music, we started our new unit using Colonel Hathi’s March from the Jungle Book. The children were learning to count in time and move to the beat; they also became very realistic elephants!

We also visited Wennington Church this week to support our RE curriculum. The children learnt all about why and how Christian’s celebrate Christmas. They represented Brady Primary School impeccably, we are all very proud of them all.

Reminder:
Next Wednesday 13th November is an inset day due to parent consultations.
