Mrs Shah update
13 Jun 2025
Another busy and exciting week in Year 1!
The children have now completed their phonics assessments, and we are incredibly proud of each and every one of them for their hard work and progress.
On Monday, we had a special visit from some feathery friends as Night Owls came to see us! The children learned lots of fascinating facts about owls, watched them fly gracefully around the hall, and even had their photos taken with them.
If you would like a copy of your child’s photo, please return the order form to your class teacher by Tuesday, 17th June.
In English, we continued working on story writing inspired by the short film The Girl with the Yellow Bag. The children used a range of adjectives and nouns in their writing, and we were delighted by their imaginative and creative ideas!
In maths, we’ve started exploring place value within 100, following the completion of our unit on position and direction.
In science, the children carried out a fun and practical biscuit dunking experiment to determine which type of biscuit would make the best roof for the witch’s house in the Hansel and Gretel fairytale.
In history, we explored the history of Rainham and Brady Primary School. The children were thrilled to recognise the war memorial in the village, and we ended the session by creating a timeline of our school’s history.
In R.E, the children learned about how different religions celebrate the birth of a new baby, helping them to appreciate and respect cultural and religious diversity.
