Year 1 Spring 1 Week 1

06 Jan 2022

We hope you had a lovely break and we would like to thank you all again for the very generous gifts and cards that we received for Christmas. The children have returned to school with wonderful attitudes towards learning which has been great to see.

English

This week we started to read our new focus story, 'Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge'. After reading the story, we discussed what a memory was and the children thought of their favourite memory and how it made them feel. Then, the children wrote a character description of the main character, using adjectives and conjunctions to make their sentences more interesting. We were really impressed with the children's writing!

Maths

In Maths we began to look at 2D and 3D shapes. We discussed the different properties and sorted the shapes according to this. Next week, we will continue to explore properties of shape.

Science

In Science, the children had lots of fun completing a fair test. We have started to learn about our five senses and this week we focused on taste and touch. The children were given various food items to describe the way they felt and tasted while closing their eyes. The children used keywords such as smooth, soft, hard, wet, sweet, sour and bitter.
