Mrs Shah update
15 Sep 2023
Welcome back, we hope you have had a wonderful summer!
The children have settled in well and are adjusting well to new routines. It has been great to get to know the children this week and we are looking forward to an exciting year ahead.
English
First week in English, we started writing all about superheroes. We focused on using our sounds to help us spell and remembering to include capital letters and full stops in the correct places. This week in English, we have continued to work on writing full sentences. We have been focusing our writing on villains this week and have worked hard to create a detailed wanted poster all about Gru.
Maths
We started the first week focusing on sorting objects in many different ways. The children really impressed us with their clever ways of grouping and organising different objects. We also worked on our number correspondence and counting carefully. This week we have been working hard on our counting forwards and backwards within 10. The children have been learning to recognise numbers as words and have been finding one more of given numbers.
Other Subjects
In Science, we started our topic learning all about the Seasons. We spoke about our favourite seasons and created our own seasons wheel to show how seasons differ as we go through the year. Finally, in History we spoke about significant people. The children explained why certain people in their lives are significant and as we continue through this term, we will be learning about Florence Nightingale a significant person from the past.
Reminders:
> Please ensure all personal items are labelled to ensure things can be returned with ease if misplaced.
>PE days are Mondays.
> During this transitional time into Year 1, your child may come home with the same reading book they had last year. This is due to having such a large amount of time off- we must refresh and consolidate the childrens sound knowledge before moving them onto the next book band. The children will be reassessed before the October half term and regrouped accordingly.
