Reception summer 2 week 2

Mrs Divall and Miss Skelton - 21 Jun 2023

This week we have been having fun in our topic “Marvellous Machines” and we started the week talking about Emergency Vehicles.  We acted out making emergency calls and we set up a massive car wash outside to wash all of the vehicles which was so much fun!  We then looked at Transport through the Ages.  The children compared old and new cars, ships, buses and trains.  We talked in detail about how they were powered and the differences between today’s vehicles and vehicles of the past.  The children have found this topic really interesting!

In maths, we have been using comparative language to measure and order from shortest-longest.  Today we did this with worms, and tomorrow we will be doing a similar activity ordering children by height.

We had an extra PE lesson this week, practising catching the ball, hitting, throwing to a target and scoring a penalty.

We have been working hard in phonics.  Remember to practise handwriting at home with us, we still make letter reversals and notice some capital letters sneaking into the middle of words!
Just a reminder that it’s our class assembly next Wednesday followed directly afterwards with our class shared learning.  Please try not to bring siblings along as it is going to be very difficult for them to sit through both the assembly and shared learning.  Some of our shared learning will take place in the ICT suite which is not suitable for babies and pre-schoolers.
