Reception- Dinosaur Trail

07 Jan 2022

Dear parents and carers,

Happy New Year! This week we have started our new, exciting topic, Dinosaurs!

By the end of the week, we should know that:

  • Dinosaurs are prehistoric animals that lived millions of years ago.
  • Some prehistoric animals, including dinosaurs are extinct.
  • Dinosaur remains are called fossils.
  • Carnivores are animals that eat other animals.
  • Herbivores are animals that eat plants.
  • A palaeontologist is a scientist that studies fossils.
We will have been on a Prehistoric safari, recieved ‚Äča letter from a professor about some mysterious dinosaur eggs and made a map and instructions to follow to visit a dinosaur island.
In maths, we will be using 2D shapes to create representations of dinosaurs.  We will also be using our careful counting skills to count dinosaurs and eggs.  We will be sorting the dinosaurs into herbivores and carnivores too.
In phonics, we will have been working hard each day in our groups to make our next learning steps.  Your child will have a phonics assessment next week where we will ascertain their progress and their teachers may change dependent upon the results.  We will inform you of your child’s results once these have been completed, so that you know what your child may need to practise next.
Please take the time to fill out the “Awesome Roarsome” document, read the newsletter and think about how you can use the homework map to support your child’s learning at home.
