Chinese New Year

Mrs Divall and Mrs Zaayman - 06 Feb 2019

Dear all,

Firstly, a big well done to all the children in our class assembly today.  They were absolutely amazing and we were very proud of them.

This week we have been learning about Chinese New Year.  We have read the story of Chinese New Year and the Jade Emperor who challenged the animals to race.  The children enjoyed this story and felt particularly sorry for the poor cat, who got tricked by the rat.  The children have all drawn dragons and tried to use their sound knowledge to label them independently.  In maths we have been counting groups of animals to find the totals.

We have participated in some ribbon dancing to beautiful Chinese music and we also made our own spring rolls this afternoon.  The children thoroughly enjoyed this activity.  A special mention to Amelia, who tried spring onion for the first time…and liked it!!!!!

Next week we are taking the opportunity to learn about vets and pets as we have the opportunity for some very special guests to visit.  We are still going to learn about the emergency services, but this will now be the first week back after half term, as we will have a real life police officer to meet!

Thank you for your continued support – the children are so proud of the homework they have brought in (thank you for helping them enjoy their learning so much) and also for coming today (we recognise not everyone can take time from work so we hope you enjoy the photos).

We are really enjoying ourselves in Reception.

Mrs Divall and Mrs Zaayman
