Stomp, Chomp, Big Roars....

Mrs Divall - 03 Oct 2015

Hello all!

We had a great week last week in Reception.  The children are working hard and as a class, we reached our 'sweet treat' planet goal, so they all had a packet of Smarties to take home at the end of the day (although I must admit I think most of us ate them on the carpet as we watched our story RaRa!)  Next week we're starting again at the first star, so watch out for more information on how high we blast off this week!

This week we are going to be busy, busy, busy.  We're trying out the new Learnpads (like iPads, but designed especially so that teachers can provide targetted app access - in our case - information about dinosaurs this week).  I anticipate the children finding these very exciting, as they are a new and accesible technology for us to use.

We are going on a fossil hunt, mapping out the dinosaur museum, junk box modelling dinosaur homes and caves, using lego to create dinosaurs, as well as cirle times (discussing why Little Rex is brave and Kind), music and library lessons.  We are learning to count one at a time in number, as well as recognising 1-6 and we are learning the sounds t, p, i, n in phonics.  In our writing books we are going to draw and label our friends at school, based upon a dinosaur poem about being friends. For handwriting we will be practising forming t, p, i, n.

At the moment, the weather looks a little iffy for next week.  We will still use outside as much as possible so please ensure your child has suitable shoes (preferably wellington boots) and a named coat.  We are starting a small collection of cardigans and jumpers with no names on.  We make every effort to ensure your child's belongings are kept safe, however we do ask that you please name your childs clothes, otherwise it is an impossible (and not very enjoyable) guessing game!

Remember next week you child needs:

Their reading book every day
Their library book on Tuesday
Their finished homework on Thursday

I hope you are having a great weekend.

Mrs Divall :)
