The Penguin and the Pinecone

Mrs Divall - 22 Jan 2015

The children in Reception class are listening and learning very well, asking clever questions and working hard to do their best...we have had a brilliant week together.

Counting on numberlines, exploring the globe, reading and writing words together....

What else have we been doing this week?

We filled up a container of ice, and hid 'curious objects' inside.  The children has to pretend to be penguins, and feel around inside, to see if they could guess what was hidden!

We learned that Penguins protect their eggs from the cold by keeping them off of it!  We pretended our large dice was an egg and passed it around the circle - it was pretty tough not to drop it!!

Here are two of the children mid 'egg-pass'

...and here's the result...

We made homes for the penguins from sugar cubes and icing sugar using our own ideas - no two penguin homes looked the same!

Next week we are reading 'We're going on a Bear Hunt' and have many more practical activites to experience!

In maths we will be focussing on 2D and 3D shapes - specifically squares, triangles, rectangles, circles, cubes, cuboids, spheres, trianglar prisms and pyramids.  You could practise recognising and describing these shapes at home and in the environment.

Please sign and date your child's reading record every time you read!! Here's why -
every week I count and record how many times you have read with your child.  You will notice in the front of your child's reading record there is a reward sheet.  I will inital one box every time you sign and date your child's reading record.  These rewards are a whole school scheme and the children will be really encouraged by winning stickers, pencils and non uniform days.

Have a fantastic weekend and please feel free to leave comments below - I'd love to hear from you!

Mrs Divall :)
