Summer 1 - Week 4 Goldilocks and the three bears
Miss Bhambra - 06 May 2016
This week in Reception we have been very busy learning all about doubling and halving in maths. We now know that doubling is adding the same number again, and halving is splitting something in two fairly. We were so excited to do some doubling and halving in our lessons and with other objects we could find whilst we were playing like marbles, leaves and blocks.
In Literacy we have been learning all about Goldilocks and the three bears this week. We have been very busy writing and sequencing the story and using our phonetical knowledge to help us sound out and write our words. We are getting better at remembering and writing our red words like “she, he, the, said, are”. Please continue to practice these words with your children. Today, we made porridge in Daddy Bear’s big porridge bowl and we made sure it wasn’t too hot or too cold, but just right like Baby Bear’s porridge was, it was very exciting and we all got to have a taste.
Next week, we are going to continue to learn about doubling, halving and sharing in maths. In Literacy we will be doing the story of The Gingerbread man, and we will be icing our own gingerbread men, re-writing the story and having our very first class debate! We are going to be doing some practising for our class assembly which is coming up in 2 weeks’ time. It will be very exciting!
For maths, please encourage children to share out some grapes, raisins or even sweets between the people you live with, encouraging them to use the phrases, “1 for you, 1 for you, 1 for you. 2 for you, 2 for you, 2 for you” etc. This is the beginning of learning about sharing and early division, and it is what we will be doing during some of our maths lessons next week.
For Literacy, please encourage your child to decorate their own gingerbread man using the template provided. You could use colouring pencils, felt tips or even paint to decorate him! Next week, we will be designing our own gingerbread men with icing sugar, before eating them all up!
I’m really enjoying teaching Reception more and more as the weeks go on, and I love greeting them in the mornings and getting to know all of the parents’ and carers a bit better too! I look forward to the teaching and learning that will be taking place next week.
