It's the first week of March and there's lots going on....

Mrs Divall - 01 Mar 2016

This week is a busy week so read ahead to make sure you don’t get caught out!

On Monday we made your mother’s day card (ssshh…it’s a secret) in the morning (we all worked really carefully) and in the afternoon we read ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and retold the story using masks.  We also made African music outside and some of us made some African animal colouring to take home.

Today, we held the first ‘phonics parent workshop’ (in conjuction with Havering College).  Helen Dawes came to visit us and explained :
  • The basic sounds in Set 1 (phonemes)
  • How to teach your child to write each letter (grapheme) correctly
  • What order the phonemes are taught
  • What words your children should be able to blend and segment at each stage
  • A ‘shake and spell’ game to make and take home!
Next Tuesday we are going to be learning about how to help your child use the Phonic system to read words, tricky words and set 2 sounds. If you have signed up to join, make sure you don’t miss out even if you missed today!

On Wednesday, we are off on a local trip to Tescos.  We’re going to find some exotic fruits (as well as our usual favourites) and make a fruit cocktail in the afternoon.  Thank you to those parents who are coming with us!  We are going to leave at 10am and will be back by 11.30! School uniform and optional donation of £1 please.

On Thursday, we are dressing up because it’s WORLD BOOK DAY!  I don’t know where Mrs Divall or Miss Hopkins will be…I heard a rumour that a friendly dragon and a pirate are teaching Reception that day! Remember to choose a character from ‘Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book’ for your child to dress up as.

Finally, on Friday, remember it is Mother’s Day breakfast in the morning, and Mother’s Day BRICS in the afternoon.  There's also a 'Helicopter Stories' workshop for Parents about improving children's story language on Friday morning in the hall.

I told you it was a busy week!
