Do you want to be an Elf...?
Mrs Divall - 14 Apr 2015
Dear Parents and Carers,
From speaking to your children, it sounds like they have had a lovely couple of weeks off! I trust therefore, you have too! Welcome back to the summer term. My last with the children! How time flies – we’ll make it a good one!
This week we are learning about ‘The Elves and the Shoemaker.’ We are going to be presenting an assembly to the rest of the school on Thursday about it, because it’s our turn. Fingers crossed we don’t get stage fright! We will be learning to count in pairs (2,4,6,8) as we count Mrs Divall’s party shoes. We will be using money to pay for shoes in our ‘shoe shop’ (recognising 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1) and we will also be redesigning Mrs Divall’s shoes to add special features, such as wings to fly or wheels to roll.! Counting in two’s and using coins to pay for items is something you can all practise with your children at home this week. Also do you want to be an Elf? Check out the dance routine we are learning for our assembly...

Mr Bishop has decided that May 16th will be a volunteering day at Brady. One of the major areas we need help with is the Reception garden (I am biased in this opinion, I know there is important work going on throughout the school site!!) This is so that we can keep the costs as low as possible, to invest in as many resources as possible for your children and future children at Brady.
We have several jobs that need doing…from painting slats for a new fence, to skipping the broken equipment. I know I have asked for help before, but the plans are in place and this is the set date so I do really hope you might want to come and be part of our project! I believe there is a sign up form on the website! I'd also be really grateful to any parents who fancy reorganising, sorting and labelling the outdoor equipment shed. It is a bit of a pickle, but with a little bit of a reshuffle we will have more resources available to access on a day to day basis. Ideally, if you were interested in helping to reorganise the outdoor equipment shed, you could come in one school-day soon, so that it is already organised before May 16th - that way we will know what needs to be skipped!
Next week and the week after, we have a very exciting project called ‘Living Eggs’ happening at school. Basically, ten eggs in an incubator are going to be delivered and after a couple of days they will hatch and we will be able to bring up the chicks. The plan is they will eventually live in our farm. Our learning next week is going to be focussed on chicks and their life cycle. We will find out about their features, how to care for them and how they grow up. The week afterwards, I am going to teach 'The Frog Prince' story. The week after, as the children are so interested in animals, I thought it would be great to have a ‘pets week’ where every day we can learn about a different pet. I have a few pets that I could bring in, but I was wondering whether any of you might have a family pet that you could bring in for the class to meet and ask you or your child questions about. Please could you let me know ASAP if you think you might be interested in doing this. Also, if anyone is a vet or friends with a vet, it would be great to have them visit!
Our half term is subject to change based upon the children’s interests, but at present I am proposing:
Wc 13th April – The Elves and the Shoemaker
Wc 20th April – Living Eggs (chicks)
Wc 27th April – Pets Week
Wc 4th May – The Frog Prince
Wc 11th May – At the Farm
Wc 18th May – At the Farm
I will continue to change reading books on a Thursday, ready for Fridays. We will continue to do PE each week, so please remember to return PE bags if they went home for a wash over Easter. I will also post as much information as I can up here each week, to keep you well informed.
Kind Regards,
Mrs Divall
