Introducing Reception 2017-18
13 Oct 2017
Hello lovely parents/carers and welcome to our first website update of the year. I have to start by saying how fantastically every single child has settled into life at Brady!
Myself, Mrs Agates and Miss Hunt as well as the rest of the staff and children at Brady have really enjoyed getting to know the children in Reception. In class we have spent a lot of time getting to know each other and what our likes and dislikes are.
So far we have enjoyed dressing up, construction and playing outside a lot. We really enjoy messy play and have had a great time practicing our letters and numbers in shaving foam and flour. When we were learning about dinosaurs last week the slime was a real highlight!
In phonics we have learnt m, a, d and s so far. When we write these letters we say a special phrase.
m- maisie mountain mountain
a- round the apple down the leaf
s- slither down the snake
d- round the dinosaur's bottom, up his tall neck and down to his feet.
These rhymes help us remember how to form our letters correctly. Since we have learnt 4 sounds now we have begun blending some of these together to be able to read CVC words like dad, sad, mad and am. Some of us could even read the sentence "I am sad".
In maths we have been practicing our numeral formation and we have been singing lots of songs to help us with out counting on our fingers like 5 little monkeys, 5 little ducks and others. We really enjoy singing! This week we focused on making repeating patterns and enjoyed using fruit to help us achieve this before eating it all up.
This week our topic story has been "The Gruffalo" and we have been making Gruffalo crumble, re-acting the story of the Gruffalo and learning what "characters" are.
Thank you to all parents who have been reading with their children and recording this in their reading records. Don't forget to do this so your child can collect their stamps. And well done to children for completing their first piece of homework! More homework will be sent home today as it is every Friday, and collected the following Wednesday.
You should have received a letter about a special BRICs next week (20/10/17). Please make sure you let a member of the Reception team know if you are attending so we can write your name on the list. We really hope you can make it as this will also be an opportunity to have a look at your children's amazing work in Reception so far.
Have a lovely weekend :)
Miss Bhambra.
