Reception explore Little Red Riding Hood and Money
Mr Hetchin - 26 May 2017
The week before half term we looked at the story "Little Red Riding Hood". We looked at the structure and plot of the story by creating story maps, discussed a healthy meal for grandma and even l talked about the importance of staying safe, with a special impetus on staying safe near the road. All the staff were very impressed with the children's existing knowledge and awareness of looking after themselves.
In Maths we have been learning about money. We have explored the different coins, their values and completed simple addition and subtraction using the money. The children had a great surprise when Miss Hopkins and Miss Hunt created a shop for the children to play in. We've seen some great addition and subtraction being done in the shop and they've had so much fun taking on the role of shopkeepers.
We were really lucky to see lots of the sun. The children have been really creative making their own dens in the outside area and looking for all different types of minibeasts.
When we return from the half term break we will be exploring the topic "pirates, princesses and superheroes".
After half term the timetable in school will also be changing to more structured timetable. The aim of this will be to help children prepare for the transition into Year 1 and I will be working closely with the year one teacher to make sure transition is as smooth as possible.
Have a fantastic break
Mr Hetchin and the foundation stage team.
