The Gruffalo's Child - Week 5

Mrs Divall and Mrs Zaayman - 08 Oct 2019

This week we have decided to continue exploring the theme of The Gruffalo and our learning has led us to The Gruffalo’s Child. The children love The Gruffalo so much it seemed only right to continuing looking at, and learning all about this follow up text.

The children have worked hard to make a cave for the Gruffalo and his child to fall asleep in. The have also explored the different seasons by making a season wheel and in the Big Question have thought about what is their favourite season and why.

The children have thought about shadows as the Mouse in the story plays a trick on the Gruffalo’s child. They thought about what makes shadows BIGGER and what makes them SMALLER.  They also enjoyed manipulating shadows too.

In Phonics the children have learned n,p, and g and it would be great if you continue to practice these sounds at  home and even have a go at writing them too if you fancy a challenge. Please also remember to practice their tricky words.

In Maths we have been finding the correct number on number fans and been practising our one to one correspondence using different objects such as counting bears etc.

Over the last few weeks there has been lots of toileting accidents and we would like to request that all children have a spare set of clothes packed into their bag each day. Please be aware that the children are never stopped from going to the toilet and are reminded frequently- they sometimes just get a little carried away with what they are doing and don’t quite make it in time.

Have a great week,  from The Reception Team xx
