Reception Autumn 2 Week 1

Mrs Divall, Mrs Zaayman and Mrs Degun - 04 Nov 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a fabulous week we are having in Reception.

Our focus text is Room on the Broom and our lessons and activities have been centered around this.

In literacy, we have focused on rhyming potions and have made whole class rhyming books.  We are going to play rhyming pairs later in the week.  We have been learning the sounds m, a, s, d and practising writing these.  We have also been singing and dancing to a song called Room on the Broom.

In science this week, we have been learning about a chemical reaction.  We have combined washing up liquid, water, bicarbonate of soda and vinager to observe a fizzing reaction.  We have discussed that this is not magic, but a chemical reaction.  The children all loved having a go and creating the reaction again in smaller groups afterwards.

In messy play, we have been creating imaginative potions outside using different messy resources, colured water, glitte, pasta, foam, spahetti, feathers, lentils etc.  The children that chose to have a go came up with some fantastic ideas for the outcomes of their potions, I think we were turned into everything from unicorns to tigers!

In maths, we have been learning to form numbers 1-5 with some rhymes to help us recall which way to move our pens to write the numbers.  You will be able to see this and the handwriting we have practised on SeeSaw this Friday.  We will also be focusing on using comparative language to describe the length of broomsitcks and worms in the later part of the week.

We will be meeting a dragon on Wednesday afternoon to ask him questions.  We want to know why he wanted to eat the witch without chips for his tea!  We will try to add more photos throughout the week so you can see all of these brilliant experiences.

We hope your child has come home chatting lots about school.  Please feel free to comment below the photos to ask us anything or let us know what your child has talked about so far.

Stay safe and enjoy the rest of the week

The Reception team x
