Instructions
Mr Armitage - 16 May 2016
As we’re entering the middle of May, the excellent learning in Year 1 is continuing to flourish.
We have been looking at writing instructions and explanation texts this week. This has involved looking at the features first to develop our understanding and moving onto writing our own instructions and explanation texts.
Our explanation writing involved us explaining the lifecycle of a butterfly. To make this process practical, Mrs Askew gave us our own caterpillars to look after. We made sure they stayed in a shady, but not too dark place and watched them turn into a chrysalis. After this, we took them out and placed the cocoons into a large net and clipped them to the top of it. A few days later, we were amazed to see them leave the cocoons as butterflies. We released them into the Reception garden last Thursday.
Will you be able to see them?
Our writing moved into looking at instructions and how they are written. To make this work we made instructions for decorating fairy cakes. We even got to eat them after! Look at our pictures to see the fun we had!
