Autumn Term Week 2

Mr. Stephens - 16 Sep 2022

This week in Year 2 we continued our excellent work in our core subjects and expanded into our foundation subjects.

English Writing
This week we practised writing in the past tense. We used these skills to take notes in the past tense, then write a fact file about Queen Elizabeth II using these skills.

Maths
In Maths we have been continuing with our block based on place value. We have been partitioning two-digit numbers into tens and ones, and have revisited the visualisations of number using base 10, part-whole models and ten frames.

Science
Building on our Year One understanding, we walked around our school and identified objects made of particular materials such as metal, rubber, plastic and glass. We then thought carefully about other objects made of the same materials and explained why these materials have been used.

History
Using a timeline, we placed up to twelve important British monarchs into a chronological order.

Art & Design
Inspired by the American artist Georgia O'Keeffe, we have been exploring the tactile methods of splitting paper including tearing, cutting and joining.

Notices and reminders
  • PE is on Thursdays. Please continue to send your child in with their full PE kit.
  • The weather is now becoming consistently more colder. Please provide your child with a warm, waterproof coat, so that they can continue to enjoy breaks and lunchtimes outside. If it is too warm, they will of course have the option to take it off.
  • As of next week, the only 'reads' counted from your child's reading record will be from their 'book bag' books which are matched to their current phonics colour group. Their reading record and reading book are expected to be in school every day, and five reads at home a week are expected.
