Spring Term Week 2
Mr. Stephens - 10 Jan 2024
Welcome back - its now 2024!
This is an important year as we are now deep in preparation to ensure each child is ready for Key Stage 2. As such, our expectations have significantly raised so that we can make as much progress in Year 2 as possible.
We've finalised a few calendar dates for you:
- Tuesday 27th February - Shared Learning afternoon (1:30PM to 2:45PM). This is for both Year 2 classes.
- Friday 1st March - Educational Visit to Colchester Castle.
- Tuesday 18th June - 2S Class assembly (9:15AM)
- Tuesday 18th June - Shared Learning afternoon (1:30PM to 2:45PM). This is for both Year 2 classes.
We took feedback from parents and planned our shared learning and class assembly dates so that working parents need to book one day off of work if they wish to attend.
Letters went out today about the Educational Visit to Colchester Castle. We will be sending a letter out at a later date about parent volunteers. Volunteers will be chosen at random if we recieve more applications than spaces.
Spelling homework this week focuses on: 'Words where ‘-er’ and ’-est’ are added to words ending in ‘y’.
This half term our topic is 'Street Detectives' which focuses on our local geographical area and how it has changed over time.
Maths
This week we begun our two week unit based on money. Children have been counting money, making equal amounts and deciding which set of money has the most value. It is clear that most children will need more practice with this!
English
Our whole school has begun a writing project based on the book 'Journey'. In Year 2 we have created pastel artwork based on what would be behind a mysterious door that is a portal to a different place. Next week we will describe this setting.
Science
Our new topic is based on life cycles. We will be studying the life cycles of a range of living things, including humans.
Notices
- We have had a number of school ties go missing in class or around school. For some children this is because they are wearing polo shirts and not collared shirts. The clip-on ties do not attach correctly to polo shirts. As a reminder - ALL children should be wearing a white collared shirt (long-sleeved) as part of their winter uniform and ALL children should be wearing a tie.
- For art this half term each child will need to bring in a shoe box. Please send this in at your earliest convienience and we will store it until it is needed.
